Guest post by Geraldine: Tangy and Terrific Turtle Bean Soup and the Black and White of Autumn

One of the best things about blogging to a prompt site is that you begin to know the other people who also post to the site and a relationship is formed.

So it is with Geraldine.  She is an avid writer, vegetarian cook and photographer.   I'm delighted that Geraldine is interested in having a guest blog on the VTH, and since she and Tania were having such a wonderful conversation about conscious food preparation, she sent the following post from one of her several sites, Veggies, Crafts and Tails:

Tangy and Terrific Turtle Bean Soup

She also offered a wonderful photo-post called : Autumn Images Black and White    on another of Geraldine's blog sites: My Poetic Path

Hope you enjoy both of these posts and get to know Geraldine! She's a generous hearted, creative soul!

Yummo!  Today would be the perfect day for it!  I wish I had some ready right now.  I really appreciate creative ideas about how to prepare tasty food that is whole and made with common ingredients.  This soup fits the bill and can't wait to make it.  Thanks Geraldine...I didn't know about this "other" site and am so happy to have found it!

Oh how nice! Thanks for featuring my work here Beth. This soup is actually on the stove for lunch today. And believe me, "meal in a bowl" is the right term for this one. It's a keeper. I really love soups, all year long but right now with the flu and cold season in full swing :<( it's a great way to stave off some of those nasty bugs. I'm experimenting with tumeric lately and it's healing properties. It really seems to help. If you stop by Veggies...again, Ive recently posted another soup recipe: Curried Apple Soup and it seemed to do the "trick" in abating what seemed to be a flu coming on. By the end of the day, after 3 luscious bowls of this soup (that includes tumeric, I was feeling so much better. I've also posted some links to sites discussing the healing powers of this spice.

I digress...thanks again, for the feature post here. I am honored!

Hugs, G

Tumeric is one of my most favorite spices on the planet...it's just so pretty plus it tastes great...I knew it had "medicinal" purposes but not as an immune system booster.  Thanks for sharing that little tid-bit.

Do you make a kichady?  It's a Vedic dish that comes in two-trillion versions but whenever I feel a cold coming on, it's my go-to and it just happens to be full of tumeric.

Hugs to all of you. New friends and old. G

Hi again, Geraldine....I just visited both the Veggies, Crafts & Tails and My Poetic Path sites and saw your "gone fishing" signs.  It may just be too early on a Sunday morning, but I couldn't figure out how to leave a comment on either so I thought I would do so here with the knowing you would receive it.

I want to say a huge thank you for your support in my path and with my writings....for your inspiration toward beauty and love of food, animals, poetry and photos....Please post here when your muse has a had a rest and, in the mean-time, I wish you nourishment at the deepest levels and on your lap in the form of hearty purrs.

About Beth Patterson

The Virtual Tea House website became 'word-ripe' when, over a cup of jasmine green, I realized that the web has an expanding part to play in the communal aspects of spiritual growth.

With a master's degree in religion, my career spans 20 years in end of life care and I currently work in the field of child abuse intervention and advocacy.

Here in beautiful Central Oregon, my spiritual homes of the high desert and the mountains are both in proximity. And for good measure, four hours away is Grandmother Ocean and the stunning Oregon Coast.

I'm making decent progress on the goal set by my mother early on: she taught us that the goal of humanity should be to become ever-more eccentric, i.e. more fully human.

Entering the 'forest-dweller' phase of life, I am honored to host the Virtual Tea House for all who wish to explore how our lives are enriched and made new a thousand times each day by the spirituality we embody. Exploring this engagement together is the purpose of the Virtual Tea House.

Welcome! Let's have a cup of virtual tea together and share what brings us joy, what we are being taught by life, how we are leaning into the Big Questions posed to us each day in sometimes 'distressing disguises'.
