A friend, Willow Durant, is seeking stories of healing for a documentary project.  I am honored to support Willow in the project.  She is a loving, deep soul with a healing heart. --Beth

Seeking Individuals interested in sharing their healing stories

I am gathering stories and working on a documentary that portrays individuals that have healed from, or that are in the process of healing from health challenges, disease or illness using alternative healing modalities.  I want to connect with individuals that are willing to have their stories in a book and/or willing to be filmed for a documentary. My intention is to provide awareness of alternative healing modalities, hopeful stories and information about holistic forms of support for individuals that are addressing health opportunities.

Please contact Willow if you are interested in contributing.

Thank you

Willow's bio:

My name is Willow Durant. I am in the process of creating an inspirational documentary portraying individuals who have healed from illness and disease using natural healing modalities. It has been a dream of mine for many years to create a body of information that can educate, inspire and bring hope to individuals that are addressing health challenges. My own health opportunities and those of the numerous clients I have seen over the years has been the catalyst for this project.

I have been a practicing Massage Therapist for twenty years.  From the beginning of my practice many of the clients that came to see me were addressing serious health issues.  Shortly after starting my massage practice I became seriously ill to the point of not being able to function. I was in and out of the emergency room numerous times.  I felt hopeless, scared and confused. The doctors that I saw were insensitive and uncaring.  After exhausting all traditional medical resources that seemed reasonable, and in a state of utter despair, fear and exhaustion, I went on a year long journey of healing using homeopathy, diet, acupuncture and art.  When I was able to work again, I continued to do Massage Therapy, and continued to attract a lot of very ill clients.   I worked many years for hospice.  I was having a hard time making sense of how many young people were dying from diseases like  Lou Gehrig’s disease, diabetes,  MS, cancer, Parkinson’s, etc….I had and still have a deep sense of empathy and compassion for the intense fear and  hopelessness that  often seems to accompany  serious disease and illness.     My experience with hospice and my ill clients intensified a deep desire to seek answers and understand ways of healing disease and pain in the body and the mind.

I feel a strong need to be a catalyst for healing.  I want to present hopeful and realistic information on ways to address disease in a broader, more holistic way than allopathic medicine offers.   Individuals addressing health issues are often inundated with information that is scary and fatalistic.  I believe it is important and impactful to see and hear about the many individuals that have found solutions and healed illness, often after being given a hopeless diagnosis from a medical professional. In my years of working in the healing arts I have heard numerous stories of recovery from disease using all kinds of healing modalities: raw food, homeopathy, juice fasting, colon cleansing and prayer.  I believe these stories are vitally imported and need to be heard.  When I was sick I was fortunate to work with a naturopathic doctor that totally believed in my healing process even though I was terrified that I was dying. His reassurance, caring and faith that my body was capable of healing, kept me focused and able to stick to an intense, year long cleansing program.   It is my intention to create a documentary that creates that sense of hope for others and acknowledges our body’s natural healing abilities.  I believe our bodies seek balance.  Our minds often need to get on board to create a shift in energy.  When I was sick it was hard to believe healing was possible because I was so caught up in my pain and fear.  It took someone else that continued to mirror to me the healing potential of my body.

I am seeking individuals who have healing stories and would be interested in contributing to this documentary.  In addition, I have been collecting resources that include treatment centers, retreats, medical facilities and information on alternative healing practitioners and modalities.  I will be travelling to one or two centers in the winter of 2010 so that I can personally experience some of the services these facilities offer.  I will be compiling stories in both written and video form.

I am working with the head of the journalism department at Central Oregon Community College, who is assisting me in learning the educational components I need for this project.  I have already begun the interviewing process.  My goal is to have completed a video documentary and a written compilation of stories in book form by the end of June 2010. It is my intention that this information will become available to the public and benefit and encourage those dealing with health opportunities.

Please contact me if you have any questions, referrals, suggestions or would like to contribute to this project.

Thank you.

Sincerely, Willow Durant

About Beth Patterson

The Virtual Tea House website became 'word-ripe' when, over a cup of jasmine green, I realized that the web has an expanding part to play in the communal aspects of spiritual growth.

With a master's degree in religion, my career spans 20 years in end of life care and I currently work in the field of child abuse intervention and advocacy.

Here in beautiful Central Oregon, my spiritual homes of the high desert and the mountains are both in proximity. And for good measure, four hours away is Grandmother Ocean and the stunning Oregon Coast.

I'm making decent progress on the goal set by my mother early on: she taught us that the goal of humanity should be to become ever-more eccentric, i.e. more fully human.

Entering the 'forest-dweller' phase of life, I am honored to host the Virtual Tea House for all who wish to explore how our lives are enriched and made new a thousand times each day by the spirituality we embody. Exploring this engagement together is the purpose of the Virtual Tea House.

Welcome! Let's have a cup of virtual tea together and share what brings us joy, what we are being taught by life, how we are leaning into the Big Questions posed to us each day in sometimes 'distressing disguises'.
