Where's home? On Native Ground

A year ago this time, Virtual Tea House was running a contest on 'Where's Home?'*  For everyone who enjoyed that contest, I hope you'll enjoy this different-but-same kind of exploration.  Joe Bageant's blog, Deer Hunting with Jesus (he's written a book by that name as well) has some amazing writing.  I've posted about his blog before as the curmudgeon's too good to not share!  He's brilliant, opinionated, sometimes despairing, always challenging, and many times inspiring.  Here's a series from his blog about finding our place in the universe.  Joe's post: On Native Ground

The second two posts are letters written in response to Joe's.  They are all stunning.  Hope you enjoy!

NOTE: I'm hoping all the winners are planting their wildflower seeds!

I'm glad you included the link to the original post, which was 'before my time' in the blogosphere!

Hi Deborah!

Sorry we were'nt friends, all those long months ago--it was a contest about 'where's home' and we had some really stellar entries...who won wildflower seed picked out specifically for their locale.  It was fun!

You can ALWAYS write about 'where's home' and I'll do a post just dedicated to it...wait, wait...that's what you ALWAYS write about!

Love to you--

About Beth Patterson

The Virtual Tea House website became 'word-ripe' when, over a cup of jasmine green, I realized that the web has an expanding part to play in the communal aspects of spiritual growth.

With a master's degree in religion, my career spans 30 years in end of life care and child abuse intervention and advocacy.

Here in beautiful Central Oregon, my spiritual homes of the high desert and the mountains are both in proximity. And for good measure, four hours away is Grandmother Ocean and the stunning Oregon Coast.

I'm making decent progress on the goal set by my mother early on: she taught us that the goal of humanity should be to become ever-more eccentric, i.e. more fully human.

Entering the 'forest-dweller' phase of life, I am honored to host the Virtual Tea House for all who wish to explore how our lives are enriched and made new a thousand times each day by the spirituality we embody. Exploring this engagement together is the purpose of the Virtual Tea House.

Welcome! Let's have a cup of virtual tea together and share what brings us joy, what we are being taught by life, how we are leaning into the Big Questions posed to us each day in sometimes 'distressing disguises'.
