Torn to tiny shreds
My neurotic cocoon of
Fear, once beloved, yields.
Written in response to One Single Impression’s prompt “cocoon”.
Thanks to Tammy Lee of Beauty Flows for this prompt. Flutter on

Beautiful my friend, just beautiful. Love the image that fears wraps us in a tight cocoon. Well done.
Melanie
Thank you Melanie!
Letting go of our fears and moving on can be most difficult. Doing so will lead to a new, more rewarding life. Well said.
Excellent. And, Yes!
Excellent. And, Yes!
I am happy.. cocoon of fear torned apart.. wow! what else one can ask for..
Impressive indeed. Very well worth to be read at even two o’clock in the night. Please have a good Wednesday.
Great words. Till one breaks it, it remains beloved!
So fine! So true!
I love that this feels so opposite…or next step…compared to where I want to hide in my cocoon
succinct, not a wasted word, beautiful.
Thank you all so much for your kind words and encouragement. Unfortunately, I seem entirely too capable of spinning another cocoon of fear quite quickly…I will have to continue to allow it to be torn away again and again…
Sometimes it is just a process rather than an event, DWL–
Thank you for this beautiful poem!
Here’s my poem in response:
The silk covering woven from
Your shredded cocoon
Lies gently across the landscape
Shielding it from the harsh sun
Protecting and defending
But no longer holding anything captive.
The grasses, sedges and little song birds
see the covering as
Mother and Friend.
–Beth, aka ‘The Velvet Hammer’
I see the cocoon as you do–an unneeded bit of self protection.
Thanks Beth, sounds like a nice use for my tattered cocoon. I have a feeling there will be enough silk to sew a large tent! I’ll just keep on trying to let it be torn to shreds!
imprisonment to freedom in twelve shortish words… and each word and thought impeccably in place. I love it!
To tear the fabric of the familiar, once a shelter, now a constraint. oh what an awakening!
