Getting there—to the habit part! I didn’t write this list yesterday, but kept thinking as I went to sleep that there was something undone…so, the practice is working on me! I’m being ‘done’.

Here’s a smattering of some few things learned this past week:

1. A reflective birthday is a gift to one’s self, wrapped in a cozy bathrobe, a journal and several cups of French pressed coffee.

2. The seating arrangements at a large Thanksgiving dinner can be significant.

3. All vegan dishes are not created equal.

4. I love the outback of Oregon! I miss being out in the scrub and juniper, the occasional pinyon, the bitterbrush and mossy rocks, like water misses the ocean.

5. Having heart to heart talks with beloved young people keeps my mind flexible and my heart without crustiness.

6. Warm feet balance a cold face on an early morning walk.

7. Starting to write a book in my head while on a road trip makes me sing out loud for the joy of it all.

8. I think I”ve finally figured out what works for me to post to FaceBook and what to post to Twitter. They ain’t synonymous.

9. Waking up on an early winter day in a very cozy bed with a very cozy dog and then moving slowly towards consciousness over a period of hours is a luxury. I think of of those in the world who never have the prerogative of gentle wakings, who have no bed, or who have no spaciousness in their lives and I”m both grateful and guilty.

10. The glitter of black ice in the pre-dawn, from street lights, porchlights, early Christmas lights, the moon: an amazing display of funky grace.

Now…what have you learned this past week? Maybe just 1-2-10 things, but we’d like to hear them!

Geronimo sleeping with Timmy 6-08
Geronimo snoozing on my bed. What a lazy, cuddly dog he is. A fine personage, as they say.
