Second in this series–I am beginning to feel the practice of it. When I’m walking the dog, cooking a meal, washing my hair, I’m wondering ‘what in this experience may be one of those precious ten things I’m learning this week’? Not that of course I can’t learn more than ten. But one has to work up to stuff like this, like starting with 5 lb weights in physical training!
So here are my ten learnings for this past week.
1. Letting sleeping dogs lie can have a high pricetag. So can waking them up.
2. Letting one’s friends hold one accountable for a big life goal is terrorizing.
3. Having 6 community gatherings in one’s home in 8 days is a little over the top.
4. At best, developing community is a messy, organic process.
5. Not taking one’s self seriously can be a fun process. Or not.
6. Watching a comedian together with friends who find the same humor funny quintuples the fun.
7. A remembering: juniper wood burns very hot, but not long.
8. Having an over-extended calendar is a poor excuse for a life.
9. Watching a 46 second clip of a young doe elk playing in a shallow pool of water high in the mountains made me happier than just about anything this entire week.
10. ‘It’s been a slow turning….from the inside out. A slow turning, baby, but you come about….a slow learning….but you learn to sway …it’s been a slow turning. Time is short and here’s the damn thing about it–you’re gonna die, gonna die for sure. You can learn to live with love or without it, but there ain’t no cure…there’s just a slow turning.’ –John Hiatt, Slow Turning
So…what did you learn this week? You can post as a comment, or to your own blog. This practice of life-reflection for a few minutes each week may hook you!

My week isn’t over yet which is a good thing because I need a few more days to figure all my learnings out.
I can’t help but wonder how point #8 (in concert with #10) will evolve for you…Point #8 is such a simple sentence yet it seems like one of those learnings that could have outrageous impact…perhaps an epiphany??
Such a cool exercise you’ve hatched…
So here are my 10:
1) Breathing is good…very good.
2) I don’t really like or want "crap" food.
3) Feeling melancholy doesn’t kill me.
4) A day spent feeling sad isn’t necessarily wasted and it’s certainly not the end of the world.
5) I can only do so much despite my intentions.
6) I really don’t like stress.
7) Being kind to people I don’t necessarily like actually makes me feel more authentic.
9) There is a plan that is far beyond what I’m doing now that is unfolding.
10) I want to be graceful when I stand up in my boundaries but that just won’t "count" for some and that truly is about them…not me.
Dear Tania–
I love your learnings! I’m enjoying this practice a lot–help keep me focused, ok? So if some week I don’t post to the 10 things, maybe you can do it first?
I especially liked #7…
