Practicing

As denial is the veiled echo of bone-marrow-knowing,
So it is with resurrection.

If we practice dying with the smug knowledge
that we’ll be resurrected, reincarnated, recycled or renewed
it resembles child’s play.

It seems we get to a place of practicing spiritual dying
where there are no answers, no platitudes, no echo from the void.
Only ‘practice dying. It’s all there is left’.
And so we do.

And as surely as the sun rises, we resurrect.
But I can’t count on that.
That takes all the fun out of it.

Practicing resurrection is the 33rd prompt in the Poetry Party series on the Abbey of the Arts Check out the link for other poets and writers offering their submissions to this worthy opponent–the theme of practicing resurrection! Please feel free to post your own entry on your blog and link to the poetry party, or write your poem directly in the comments section.
