The Virtual Tea House is about engaging the spirituality of everday, ordinary life. This translates to ‘ya gotta play to win’. The ridiculous, the mundane, the boring, the unhappily gray-haired and maybe even not-nice parts of ourselves–the Asleep Ones want to have tea with those other parts of ourselves that we want to have front and center (even though they may not be the qualities others notice!)–the Waking Up Ones.

In this setting, ‘having tea’ means not-sidelining or dis-membering ourselves to only the Waking Up aspects. Drinking our subtle-tea (aargh, couldn’t help myself) imeans that we have the strength, courage, honesty, whatever it is we think we don’t have, to show up with our bad se’fs. Re-membering includes all those less than savory Asleep parts of us.

Bill Ellis’ recent post “Eyes of the World” is about waking to see the world through the eyes of ‘what is’ (and it is glorious far beyond what we could imagine it) rather than how we want it to be. This is taking our tea straight up!

Just in case we get too serious about all this, here’s a YouTube video to help us laugh at our desire to take our tea in ways that probably won’t get us the promised results. ‘Ya gotta play to win’ means we have to drink the tea–bitter, sweet, savory. It’s communion. Here ya go– Tea: It’s for drinking!
